Our Activities
The Ignatian Social Justice is a group at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola made up of parishioners committed to raising awareness of current Catholic social teaching and addressing timely social justice issues. The volunteer group embraces the responsibility not only to act, but also to help inform parishioners and engage them in constructive change to promote peace and social justice
Who We Are
A group of parishioners who work together to learn more about social justice issues and make a difference through both hands-on volunteer work and advocacy for long-term changes and solutions to problems in society.
What We Do
Once a month, we meet for an hour to learn about a particular social justice topic and reflect on how it affects our community, country, and world. We also plan volunteer work and advocacy efforts surrounding these issues.
Issues and Activities
We work on a broad range of issues including: visiting refugees seeking asylum, painting classrooms for schools in low-income areas of the city, building homes for Habitat for Humanity, writing letters and calling elected officials to register opinions on pending legislation, organizing the annual Christmas Angel donations and Work of Human Hands sale, protesting for an end to the School of the Americas, participating in the Pax Christi Way of the Cross on Good Friday, and much, much, more.
Want to learn how you can take direct action to help those in need? Interested in learning more about issues of advocacy and public policy? Join our monthly meetings from September through June or sign up for our e-mail list if you can’t make it to the meeting, by contacting Jennifer Gniady.
