8-Week Ignatian Retreat
Time: Tuesday, September 24
Location: Parish House

The quintessential spiritual retreat experience, based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius, requires a full 30-day separation from “all worldly cares” in order to pray and reflect in silence on one’s personal salvation journey, covering the redemptive narrative of the life of Christ. You may have heard of the “19th Annotation” retreat, or “Retreat in Daily Life,” in which the retreatant who cannot dedicate a full month away follows the same structure and dynamic but over the course of six months. To put it in simple quantitative terms, instead of six hours a day for a month, the retreatant dedicates one hour a day for six months.

This Fall we are offering an 8-week version of this powerful experience of retreat in daily life. The format consists of daily personal prayer (45 minutes), plus a weekly group meeting (one hour) for discussion and presentation of printed materials for the coming week. The eight weeks will cover the scope of the entire Spiritual Exercises.

The daily personal prayer will consist of spiritual exercises, aided by handout materials that introduce, explain, and guide the respective meditation.

For the weekly group meeting at the Parish House, we offer two possibilities: Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM, and Wednesday mornings at 11:00 AM. At the time of registration, each retreatant will choose the option that they prefer and will commit themselves to participating in that weekly meeting.

- Tuesdays at 7:00 PM: September 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12.
- Wednesdays at 11:00 AM: September 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13.

Mr. John Lantry will accompany the retreatants through the eight weeks. John has been a parishioner for 20 years. After retiring as a high school principal, he became Director of the Linwood Spiritual Center in Rhinebeck, NY. This Center is Ignatian in orientation and enjoys close association with the New York Jesuits. Upon moving to the city, John became Director of the St. Jean Baptiste Community Center, where he served for 11 years.

John has been a student of Ignatian spirituality at Linwood, and has taken further training at the Jesuit Retreat Centers in Guelf, Ontario, and Wernersville, PA. John has extensive experience of the Spiritual Exercises, both as retreatant and director.
